Il progetto nasce dalla collaborazione di Michele Catelani (regista) ed Eugenio Usai (sceneggiatore), co-fondatori del collettivo cinematografico Sammend e prende ispirazione da un episodio vissuto indirettamente dal regista.

Abbiamo sentito il bisogno di raccontare questa storia attraverso un personaggio capace di rompere gli schemi. Nel momento in cui il padre si rivela essere un fallimento, Serena prende in carico la responsabilità della sua famiglia, rifiutando di subire le stesse angherie subite dalla madre.
Per farlo, non usa la forza, pur potendolo fare, ma l’astuzia. La determinazione che la incoraggia deriva dalla sua forte passione per il pugilato, che la aiuta a combattere sia il mondo esterno che il suo mondo interiore. Attraverso questo sport, la protagonista affronta le sue paure e il suo traumatico passato. Serena riuscirà a vincere sé stessa e a superare le fragilità che la ostacolano.

CREW

Regista - Michele Catelani

Nato a Carrara nel 1989, si laurea in Discipline dello Spettacolo e della Comunicazione presso l’Università di Pisa, subito dopo si trasferisce a Roma. Nel 2021 scrive “Una mano in più” con Eugenio Usai e ne cura la regia e sempre nello stesso anno dirige il cortometraggio “Kairos” scritto da Sharon Sanfilippo e Eugenio Usai per il 48H Film Festival avvalendosi della collaborazione di Flavio Fransesini come direttore della fotografia e operatore. Nel 2020, durante il lockdown, realizza insieme a Sharon Sanfilippo il documentario “Grazie”, dedicato all’associazione Misericordie di Roma. Nel 2019 dirige come regista per il bando del Karawan Film Festival a Roma il cortometraggio finalista “Il ferro del mestiere”. Nel 2018 realizza il videoclip “Buio” per il cantante Edoardo Michelucci. Nel 2017 dirige cortometraggio “Double eye” che entra nella prima selezione di cortometraggi del David di Donatello. Esordisce nel 2013 con il cortometraggio “Impasse”.

Sceneggiatore e Aiuto Regia - Eugenio Usai

Nato a Roma nel 1990, si laurea nel 2014 in Lettere, Musica e Spettacolo all’università “La Sapienza”. Negli anni universitari decide di intraprendere la carriera di sceneggiatore cinematografico cominciando a scrivere i primi soggetti e sceneggiature. Nel 2018 dirige un cortometraggio a fini di esercitazione didattica nel corso di cinema “La Cineofficina”, istituito dall’associazione “Greve 61”, formata da ex allievi dell’Accademia Cinematografica Gian Maria Volontè. Dopo qualche piccola esperienza come operatore video, nel 2019 collabora come aiuto regista e operatore camera nel cortometraggio “Il ferro del mestiere”, finalista al Karawan Film Festival e al Borgo Pio Film Festival. Nel 2020 partecipa alla scrittura della sceneggiatura e alla realizzazione del cortometraggio “Orgoglio di una nazione”, selezionato al festival “Inventa un film”. Nello stesso anno scrive la sceneggiatura del cortometraggio “Una mano in più”, in fase di selezione del festival organizzato dal CIR (Centro Italiano Rifugiati) e la sceneggiatura del cortometraggio “Kairos”, assieme a Sharon Sanfilippo, creato per il “48 Ore film festival”.

Direttore di Produzione - Cristiano Neila

Dopo un master in Ingegneria del Suono presso la facoltà di Ingegneria Elettronica dell'Università Tor Vergata di Roma ha collaborato dal 2016 al 2018 come Sound Designer, Fonico e Produttore esecutivo in alcune produzioni indipendenti come i lungometraggi "42-66 l'origine del male" (disponibile su Prime Video) e "Me and the Devil", entrambi diretti da Dario Almerighi. Nel 2019 ha diretto il corto "Grabadora Sound" vincitore delle menzioni d'onore ai festival "Florence Film Awards" e "The IndieFEST Film Awards" (CA, USA).

Direttore della Fotografia e Operatore - Flavio Fransesini

Nasce a Palestrina nel 1973, si avvicina alla fotografia solo dopo i 25 anni. Una breve esperienza con la pellicola segna il passaggio al digitale. Formatosi successivamente con vari corsi di studio, tra i più importanti il corso conseguito ad Officine Fotografiche Roma. Corso che ha portato una forte innovazione nella visione delle immagini fino a quella delle attrezzature per crearle. "Scacco Matto" il corto che ha segnato la prima esperienza come DOP nel 2018 ed attualmente membro associato AIC - Associazione Autori Cinematografia.

Scenografia - Martina Giannico

Trentaduenne ligure trapiantata a Roma da ormai 8 anni, ha studiato scenografia a Carrara e  lavorato nel teatro, cinema e televisione collaborando alla progettazione scenografica per "Emergency room" (BBC) a Manchester, assistente scenografa nel 2014 per "Invasioni barbariche" e "Piazza Pulita" nel 2015 e "Domicilio Coatto" della Pokipoker Production a Roma. Nell'ambito della realizzazione scenografica ha lavorato per Tecnostyle eseguendo alcune lavorazioni per Cinecittà World e Zoolander 2.

Costumi - Michela Di Legge

Nata e cresciuta in Molise, dopo la maturità si trasferisce a Roma dove inizia gli studi all'università La Sapienza laureandosi in Scienze della Moda e del Costume. Nel 2019 segue un corso per specializzarsi nel costume presso la LabCostume. Nel 2019 collabora con regista Michele Catelani per il corto "Il ferro del mestiere". Nello stesso anno collabora con il regista Enrico di Leo per il corto "Argilla" . Nel 2020 inzia a lavorare presso la LabCostume.

Montaggio -Nicola Fabbi

Regista di cortometraggi evideo-editor. È nato nel 1987 a Mantova. Si è laureato in S.T.Ar.S. (Scienze e Tecnologie delle Arti e dello Spettacolo) all’Università Cattolica di Brescia, e ha conseguito un Master in Regia all’UCLA Extension, a Los Angeles. I film sono sempre stati la sua personale passione sin dall’infanzia. Egli ha una propensione al disegno e al ricreare storie visivamente, sia come regista che come montatore. Finora, dal 2007 al 2020, egli ha scritto, diretto e montato nove tra cortometraggi e videoclip, e ha vinto il premio per la Miglior Sceneggiatura al Makar Film Fest 2013 per uno di essi ("Milo-n the Moon"). Inoltre, è stato assistente sul set in vari ruoli tecnici.

CAST

Serena - Alessia Capua

Dopo essersi laureata in Scienze e Tecniche Psicologiche, decide di trasferirsi a Roma e di fare della sua passione per la recitazione una professione. Qui si diploma al triennio della scuola di recitazione Fondamenta in Roma sotto la direzione artistica di Giorgia Trasselli per poi specializzarsi presso il CAFT (Centro di Alta Formazione) sotto la direzione artistica di Massimiliano Bruno. Insegnante di recitazione, counsellor teatrale professionista a indirizzo gestaltico, casting e acting coach per piccole e medie produzioni. Attrice professionista tra i vari lavori si annoverano: Vincitrice III Edizione 2015 Nuovo Premio Teatro Traiano come attrice e autrice del corto teatrale “InaspettataMente” per la regia di Francesco Marchesi. È attrice e autrice dello spettacolo teatrale “PornoDrama” recitando a fianco di Stefano Fresi. È attrice e autrice nella I Edizione di “Le donne se la ridono” di Paola Minaccioni. Ha recitato al cinema in: “42-66. La nascita del male” di Dario Almerighi. “Beata Ignoranza” di Massimiliano Bruno. “Cronaca di una passione” di Fabrizio Cattani. Attualmente impegnata nella sceneggiatura di una serie tv.

Roberto (il Padre di Serena) - Fabrizio Bordignon

Attore italiano dalla formazione teatrale, divide la sua carriera fra teatro, cinema e televisio-ne. Nel 2016 vince a Los Angeles Horror Competition il premio come Best Actor, Diamond Award e il miglior attore al FiPiLi Horror Festival 2017. Lavora in diversi cortometraggi, serie web e pubblicità, è anche regista e assistente alla regia in molti spettacoli teatrali. Parallelamente alla attività di attore in questi anni si dedica all’insegnamento della recitazione per adulti, ragazzi e bambini, offrendo la sua esperienza anche alle categorie più svantaggiate, detenuti e diversamente abili.

Antonella (La Madre di Serena) - Serena Mazzone

Vince giovanissima il Premio Hystrio alla Vocazione come miglior attrice emergente. Lavora con importanti registi e al fianco di grandi nomi della scena italiana. Dottore di Ricerca in Storia del Teatro ed educatrice, ha collaborato con l’Università di Lettere e si occupa anche di formazione teatrale.

SYNOPSIS

Serena is an aspiring boxeur, a non-resident student living in Rome. After receiving a call for help from her little sister - who just saw their father assaulting their mother -, the girl gets back to her own town to rescue her own family, at the cost of confronting her biggest fear again.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

“Out Loud”

The project is the result of the collaboration between Michele Catelani (director) and Eugenio Usai (screenwriter), co-founders of the film collective named Sammend, and is inspired by a real event the director' indirectly experienced.

We felt the need to tell this story through a character who could break the mould. From the very moment her father turns out to be a failure, Serena takes on the responsibility for her family, refusing to suffer the same torments suffered by her mother. In order to do that, she doens't resorts to force – although she could -, but to cleverness. The determination boosting her comes from her strong passion for boxing, which helps her fighting either the outside world and her inside one. By such a sport, the protagonist faces her own fears and traumatic past. Serena succeeds in winning over either herself and the weaknesses undermining her.

we aim at covering most of the expenses for shooting and distribution of this short-film. Pre-production is already in motion, but for the very production, scheduled for next April, we need you.

Director - Michele Catelani

Born in Carrara (Italy) in 1989, he graduated in Performing Arts and Communication Disciplines at the University of Pisa, and he moved to Rome right after that. He debuted in 2013 with the short-film "Impasse". In 2017, he directed the short-film "Double Eye", which was included in the first short-film selection for David di Donatello award. In 2018, he realized the videoclip "Buio" ("Darkness") for the singer Edoardo Michelucci. In 2019, he directed short-film "Il ferro del mestiere" ("The tool of the trade"), finalist at the Karawan Film Festival in Rome. In 2020, during the first lockdown, he made the documentary "Grazie" ("Thanks") with Sharon Sanfilippo, dedicated to Misericordie Association in Rome. In 2021, he wrote "Una mano in più" ("One more hand") with Eugenio Usai  and directed it, and in the same year he directed a short-film entitled "Kairos", written with Sharon Sanfilippo and Eugenio Usai for a 48H Film Festival, in collaboration with Flavio Fransesini as director of photography and camera operator.

Screenwriter and Assistant Director - Eugenio Usai

Born in Rome in 1990, he graduated in Literature, Music and Performing Arts at La Sapienza University in Rome. During his academic path, he decided to pursue the screenwriting career by writing his first stories and scripts. In 2018, he directed a short-film as a training exercise for the filmmaking course named “La cineofficina”, set up by the association “Greve 61”, consisting of former students from the Gian Maria Volonté Film Academy. After some little experiences as camera operator, he was assistant director and camera operator in 2019 for the short-film “Il ferro del mestiere” (“The tool of the trade”), finalist project at Karawan Film Festival and at Borgo Pio Film Festival. In 2020 he took part in the script-writing and the realization of the short-film “Orgoglio di una nazione”, selected at “Inventa un film” festival. In the same year, he wrote the script for the short-film “Una mano in più” (“One more hand”) - actually at the selection stage at a festival promoted by CIR (Centro Italiano Rifugiati – Italian Refugees Center) – and for the short-film “Kairos” with Sharon Sanfilippo, made for “48 hours Film Festival”.

Production Manager - Cristiano Neila

After getting a master in Sound Engineering at the faculty of Electronic Engineering of the Tor Vergata University in Rome, he worked from 2016 to 2018 as sound designer, sound guy and executive producer in some independent productions, as the feature “42-66 l’origine del male” (“42-66 the origin of evil” (available on Prime Video) and “Me and the Devil”, both directed by Dario Almerighi. In 2019, he directed the short-film “Grabadora Sound”, which received honourable mentions at Florence Film Awards Festival and The IndieFEST Film Awards (CA, USA).

Director of Photography and Camera Operator - Flavio Fransesini

He was born in Palestrina (Italy) in 1973, and he approached photography only after 25 years. After a brief experience with film, he moved to digital support. He was subsequently formed through various study courses, among which one of the most important ones was the course attended at Officine Fotografiche Roma. That course brought a consistent innvation from visuals to the instruments to achieve them. The short-film “Scacco matto” (“Checkmate”) was his first experience as DOP in 2018 and made him become an AIC associate member (Associazione Autori Cinematografia – Cinematography Authors Association).

Production Design - Martina Giannico

She, a 32 years old girl from Liguria (Italy) who moved to Rome eight years ago, studied production design in Carrara and worked in theatre, movies and television by collaborating in the production design for “Emergency room” (BBC) in Manchester, by being set design assistant in 2014 for “Invasioni barbariche” and “Piazza pulita”, and in 2015 for “Domicilio coatto” by Pokipoker Production in Rome. In the context of production design, she worked for Tecnostyle by realizing some craftings for Cinecittà World and “Zoolander 2”.

Costumes - Michela Di Legge

Born and grown in Molise (Italy), after high school she moved to Rome, where she studied at La Sapienza University and ghraduated in Sciences of Fashion and Costume. In 2019, she attended a course to specialize in costumes at LabCostume. In the same year, she worked with the director Michele Catelani for the short-film “Il ferro del mestiere” (“The tool of the trade”) and with the direcotr Enrico Di Leo for the short-film “Argilla” (“Clay”). In 2020, she started working at LabCostume.

Film Editing - Nicola Fabbi 

Short-film director and video-editor. He was born in Mantova (Italy) in 1987. He graduated in Sciences and Technologies of Arts and Spectacle at Catholic University of Brescia (2011), got a master in directing at UCLA Extension (Los Angeles) (2014) and a degree in television screenwriting at Rossellini Institute in Rome (2018). Movies have always been his passion since childhood, paired with a proficiency in drawing. He loves to visually building stories, either as director and editor. Until now, from 2007 and 2020, he wrote, directed and edited nine among short-films and video-clips, and won a Best Script prize at Makar Film Fest 2013 for one of them (“Milo-n the Moon”). Furthermore, he was assistant on sets in various crew roles.

CAST

Serena - Alessia Capua  

After graduating in Psychological Sciences and Techniques, she decided to move to Rome to turn her passion for acting into a job. She earned a three-year degree at Fondamenta acting school under the artistic supervision of Giorgia Trasselli, then she specialized at CAFT (Centro di Alta Formazione – High Training Center) under the artistic supervision of Massimiliano Bruno. She is acting teacher, professional theatre counselor with a gestaltic orientation, casting and acting coach for small and medium productions. Being a professional actress, she was the winner of Nuovo Premio Teatro Traiano third edition as actress and author of the theatrical short “InaspettataMente”, directed by Francesco Marchesi. She wrote and acted in the play “PornoDrama”, where she performed side by side with Stefano Fresi. She wrote and acted in the first edition of “Le donne se la ridono”, by Paola Minaccioni. She played movie roles in “42-66 Le origini del male” (“44-66 The origins of evil”) by Dario Almerighi, “Beata ignoranza” (“Ignorance is bliss”) by Massimiliano Bruno, and “Cronaca di una passione” (“Story of a passion”) by Fabrizio Cattani. She’s actually working on the script of a TV series.

Roberto (Serena's Father) - Fabrizio Bordignon

He is an Italian theatre-trained actor, who divides his career between stage, cinema and television. In 2016, he won the Best Actor prize at Los Angeles Horror Competition, the Diamond Award and a Best Actor prize at FiPiLi Horror Festival 2017. He worked in several short-films, web-series and commercial videos, and was director and assistant director for many stageplays as well. Alongside his acting activity, in those years he taught acting to adults, boys and children, offering his own experience to the most disadvantaged groups, like inmates and disabled people.

Antonella (Serena's Mother) - Serena Mazzone

At a very young age, she won the Hystrio Award for true vocation as best upcoming actress. She worked with important directors and at the side of big names of the Italian scene. PhD in History of Theatre and educator, she worked with the Humanities University and is involved with theatre training.
