Armato di cinepresa Super8 e di straordinarie immagini d’archivio, Andrea Serafini torna a Mirafiori per raccontare un quartiere che, grazie all'impegno di tanti suoi abitanti, è riuscito a superare il degrado verso cui sembrava avviato negli anni Ottanta. 

Il documentario ripercorre la vita del quartiere in quei tempi bui attraverso un archivio inedito di film in Super8, realizzati negli anni Ottanta e Novanta da un gruppo di maestri con gli allievi della scuola elementare Cairoli. Quei film, basati su storie e personaggi creati dai bambini, riflettono le dinamiche familiari e domestiche del tempo e le paure e i sogni dei giovani autori.

Intrecciando questi contenuti con immagini in Super8 girate oggi e con le testimonianze di vecchi e nuovi abitanti del quartiere, Primavera a Mirafiori racconta il percorso di una comunità nata in modo forzato per rispondere alla richiesta di manodopera della fabbrica, che trova la forza per sopravvivere al XX secolo e si trasforma in una comunità vera e viva oggi.

Primavera a Mirafiori è importante perché racconta la storia del quartiere attraverso il punto di vista dei suoi abitanti. 

Il processo di industrializzazione promosso dall’industria automobilistica ha favorito il tasso di occupazione del Paese ed ha risposto ai bisogni di una fetta di popolazione esclusa economicamente e socialmente. Per contro, ha dato vita a quartieri dormitorio come Mirafiori. Quartieri dove il ritmo naturale che porta alla costituzione di una comunità è stato accelerato e stravolto . 

A Mirafiori si sono così ritrovate tante persone diverse  fra loro che hanno imparato a convivere con degli sconosciuti, in una terra a loro sconosciuta. E hanno dovuto creare una nuova casa per loro e per le loro famiglie. Ciò che emerge da questo film è come il sogno di un futuro migliore diventi la forza che permette di fronteggiare le sfide del presente, guardando alle generazioni future con speranza.

Il film crea una narrativa inedita di MIrafiori, dove l'industria resta sullo sfondo mentre i protagonisti sono le storie e i sogni dei suoi abitanti che con il loro impegno hanno dato nuova vita a questa comunità.

Primavera a Mirafiori non è un documentario storico o sociale che dice agli spettatori cosa pensare. Il mio approccio è l'opposto. Non cerco di insegnare nulla allo spettatore, ma cerco di capire e di perdere i miei pregiudizi. Lo faccio attraverso quello che oggi riprendo con la mia camera Super8, i film in Super8 fatti dai bambini negli anni Ottanta nel Laboratorio dell'Immagine di via Millelire, film e foto d’archivio e, soprattutto, attraverso l’incontro con abitanti vecchi e nuovi di Mirafiori che mi raccontano i loro ricordi, i loro sogni, cosa li ha legati a questo posto o cosa li ha respinti.

Trovo racconti sorprendenti, a volte divertenti, spesso pieni di gioia e a volte profondamente tristi e amari. Alla fine, una sola cosa mi è chiara: quello che permette a una comunità di sopravvivere ai momenti più difficili, non sono il denaro o le fabbriche ma l’amore, la cura e i sogni dei suoi abitanti.

Fully equipped with a Super8 camera and some extraordinary archive images, Andrea Serafini returns to Mirafiori to tell the story of a neighbourhood that in the 80s seemed doomed to decay but, rather surprisingly, managed to recover.

This documentary retraces the life of the neighbourhood in those dark times through an unpublished archive of Super8 animated films, made in the 80s and 90s by a group of teachers with the pupils of the Cairoli primary school. Those films, based on stories and characters created by the children, reflect what they experienced in their families and in the community at the time. And they portray their fears and dreams.

Mixing these contents with Super8 images shot today and with the voices of old and new inhabitants of the neighbourhood, Mirafiori, a Springtime recounts the journey of a community created to respond to the factory's labour demand, which finds the strength to survive the 20th century and become a real and living community.

Primavera a Mirafiori is important because it tells the story of the district through the point of view of its inhabitants. 

The industrialisation process promoted by the car industry has boosted the country's employment rate and met the needs of an economically and socially excluded segment of the population. On the other hand, it has given rise to dormitory districts like Mirafiori. In these neighbourhoods, the natural rhythm that leads to the constitution of a community has been accelerated and disrupted. 

Thus, in Mirafiori, many different people had to learn to live with strangers, in a place far away from their former homes. To cope with the difficulties, the inhabitants of Mirafiori created a social network of mutual support. What emerges from this film is how the dream of a better future becomes the impetus to face the challenges of the present, looking to future generations with hope.

The film creates a new narrative of Mirafiori, where the industry remains in the background, while the protagonists are the stories and dreams of its inhabitants, whose commitment has brought new life to this community

Mirafiori, a Springtime is not a historical or social documentary that tells viewers what they have to think. My approach is the opposite. I don't try to teach the viewer anything, but I  rather try to understand what happened and to challenge my prejudices. I do this through the  images I shoot with my Super8 camera, the Super8 movies made in the 1980s by the school kids at the Mirafiori film workshop, some archive material and, above all, through the voices of the old and new inhabitants of Mirafiori who tell me their memories, their dreams, what has tied them to this place or what they have hated about it. 

I find some surprising stories, sometimes funny, often full of joy and sometimes deeply sad and bitter. In the end, there is only one thing which is clear to me: what allows a community to survive through hard times is not money or factories but the love, care and dreams of its inhabitants.

To finish the story, your support will be essential to close the production budget, without which we wouldn't be able to continue the film!

Director: Andrea Serafini. He lives in Turin, he has studied Cinematography at the Luchino Visconti Civica Scuola di Cinema and at the Northern School of Film and TV of Leeds Metropolitan University. Director of Rai and Mediaset projects, today he is one of the founding members of the YEPP Italia Association and a member of Labins SC.
