SABIRFESTcultura e cittadinanza mediterranea, è una manifestazione annuale che nasce nel 2014 dall’esigenza di ripensare insieme il Mediterraneo e di contrastare l’ideologia dello scontro permanente di popoli e civiltà. Connette le storie e le esperienze di quanti lo intendono come spazio di solidarietà e di pace, piuttosto che di conflitti e di morte.

Conoscenza, solidarietà, diritti sono i tre punti fermi su cui orientiamo il fitto programma di incontri, seminari, pièce teatrali, laboratori, proiezioni

SABIRFEST 2016 prenderà avvio a Messina, dal 6 al 9 ottobre 2016, per poi proseguire a Catania, dal 13 al 16 ottobre.

SABIRFEST ha bisogno anche del tuo contributo per sostenere le iniziative che danno voce a un Mediterraneo destino comune.

Cosa Troverai al SABIRFEST

Passeggiando per le strade e le piazze del centro storico di Messina e Catania, vi imbatterete inSABIRFESTIVAL, lo spazio diffuso in cui i cittadini possono incontrarsi e confrontarsi con intellettuali, scrittori, artisti di diverse lingue e Paesi mediterranei.

A Messina parleremo di Vuoti di Memoria, il tema annuale sul rapporto che il nostro tempo e noi stessi intratteniamo con il ricordo come esperienza individuale, ma anche come pratica sociale. Proveremo a considerare il peso della rimozione e della negazione che investono il passato, il presente e il futuro dei popoli del Mediterraneo.

A Catania, poi, affronteremo il tema Città Arcipelago, sulla relazione tra Catania, la città mutevole, dinamica, distrutta sei volte e per sei volte rinata, e il Mediterraneo. Ci chiederemo anche, assieme agli ospiti e al pubblico partecipante, se sia possibile pensare le nostre città come un arcipelago di isole in comunicazione fra loro.

Nella libreria collettiva SABIRLIBRI, che con circa 10000libri esposti e più di 60case editrici  presenti nelle passate edizioni, ti inviteremo, attraverso la lettura, alla scoperta delle voci e dello sguardo dell’altro.

Nei seminari e nei dialoghi di SABIRMAYDAN, il forum sulla cittadinanza mediterranea, potrai confrontarti con attivisti, intellettuali e rappresentanti della società civile provenienti dai Paesi mediterranei sul rapporto tra migrazione e crisi globale, sulle possibili alternative economiche nel Mediterraneo e sulla libertà di espressione.

Padre Paolo Dall’Oglio, gesuita,ha fondato in Siria la comunità religiosa al-Khalil, ed èun riconosciuto artefice del dialogo tra confessioni cristiane e tra Chiesa e Islam. Il suo attivismo per la non-violenza e la libertà nei mesi della rivoluzione del 2011 gli ha causato l'ostracismo del governo siriano, che lo portò a lasciare il paese nel 2012. Dopo essersi trasferito a Sulaymanya, nel Kurdistan iracheno, durante una delle sue visite nei territori della Siria Settentrionale, il 29 luglio 2013 padre Paolo viene sequestrato a Raqqa, e da allora non si hanno più notizie. L’ISIS ha distrutto nell’agosto del 2015 uno dei monasteri della sua comunità, Mar Elyan al-Scheick, situato nella cittadina siriana di al-Qaryatain.

   Alaa Abd El Fattah è un’icona dei blogger egiziani, 33 anni e tre arresti alle spalle. Fu promotore nel 2011 di una campagna contro la conduzione di processi militari nei confronti di civili e attivo partecipe della rivoluzione. È stato condannato nel febbraio del 2015 a cinque anni di carcere dalla giustizia egiziana, con l’accusa di aver violato una legge contro le proteste, partecipando a una manifestazione non autorizzata nel novembre del 2013 e attaccando la polizia.  Alaa è stato collaboratore COSPE Egitto per molti anni.

Chinyery Namdi è una donna nigeriana di 24 anni che insieme al compagno Emmanuel, 36 anni, è fuggita in Italia dal suo Paese e dalle violenze perpetuate dall’organizzazione terrorista Boko Haram nella speranza di essere accolta in Europa e ricostruirsi una vita. Il 5 luglio 2016 Emmanuel viene ucciso a Fermo nel tentativo di difendere la compagna da insulti razzisti; è una vittima della xenofobia e del razzismo e di quelle politiche migratorie che invitano ad atteggiamenti e pratiche razziste e violente nei confronti degli stranieri.

Sabirfest: Rethinking together the Mediterranean

SABIRFESTMediterranean culture and citizenship, is an annual gathering that was born in 2014 from the need to rethink the Mediterranean and to counter the ideology of the permanent clash between peoples and cultures. The festival connects the stories and experiences of those who intend the Mediterranean as a place of solidarity and peace, rather than of confrontation and conflict.

Mutual  recognition and respect, solidarity and rights are the key points which inspire the busy schedule of meetings, seminars, plays, workshops, and screenings offered by the festival.

SABIRFEST 2016 will take place in Messina, from the 6th to the 9th of October 2016. A pilot SabirFest Off will then take place in Catania, from the 13th   to the 16th.

What you will find at SABIRFEST

Walking through streets and squares of the historic centers of Messina and Catania, you'll come across SABIRFESTIVAL, the open space where citizens can meet and discuss with intellectuals, writers, artists of different languages and from Mediterranean countries.

In Messina we will talk about Memory lapses, the annual theme on the relationship that our time and ourselves have with the memory as an individual experience, but also as a social practice. We will try to consider the weight of removal and denial that invests the past, the present and the future of the peoples of the Mediterranean.

Then, in Catania, we address the theme City Archipelago, concerning the relationship between Catania, a changing and dynamic city destroyed six times and six times reborn, and the Mediterranean. We will also wonder, together with the guests and the participating audience, whether it is possible to think of our cities as an archipelago of islands in communication with each other.

In the SABIRLIBRIcollective library, which counts about 10.000 books exposed and more than 60 publishers present in previous editions, we will invite you, through reading, to discover the voices and the gazes of the other.

In the dialogues and seminars ofSABIRMAYDAN, the forum on Mediterranean Citizenship, activists, intellectuals and civil society representatives from different Mediterranean countries will exchange about the relationship between migration and the global crisis, possibleeconomic alternatives in the Mediterranean and freedom of expression.

Father Paolo dall’Oglio, the Italian Jesuit who disappeared in Syria in 2013

Alaa Abdelfattah, a symbol of the Egyptian activists arrested by the regime, and

Chinyery Namdi, widow of Nigerian Emmanuel Namdi, killed in Fermo last July 

Father Paolo Dall'Oglio, a Jesuit who founded the religious community in Syria al-Khalil, and is recognized as the architect of dialogue among Christian denominations and between the Church and Islam. His activism for nonviolence and freedom during the revolution of 2011 caused the ostracism of the Syrian government, which led him to leave the country in 2012. After moving to Sulaymanya in Iraqi Kurdistan, on 29th of July 2013, during one of his visits in the territories of Northern Syria, Father Paul was arrested in Raqqa, and since then there has been no news. In August of 2015 the ISIS destroyed one of the monasteries of his community, Mar Elyan al-Scheick, located in the Syrian town of al-Qaryatain.

 Alaa Abd El Fattah is an icon of the Egyptian bloggers, he is 33 years old and has three arrests behind. He promoted in 2011 a campaign against the conduct of military trials against civilians and was an active participant in the revolution. In February 2015 he was sentenced to five years in prison by the Egyptian justice, accused of violating a law against the protests, participating in an unauthorized demonstration in November 2013 and attacking the police. Alaa has been a collaborator of COSPE Egypt for many years.

Chinyery Namdi is a 24 years old Nigerian woman who together with his partner Emmanuel, 36 years old, came to Italy leaving his country to flee the violence perpetuated by the terrorist organization of Boko Haram, in the hope of being welcomed in Europe and rebuild their lives. On 5th of July 2016 Emmanuel was killed in Fermo in the attempt to defend his partner from racist insults. He is a victim of xenophobia and racism, the victim of those immigration policies instigating racist and violent attitudes and practices against foreigners.
