OBIETTIVO

L'obiettivo è di implementare la performance musicale con un progetto di video mapping di palco, oggetti e persone. Creando una storia che procede non solo a livello audio ma anche a livello visivo. Dei collaboratori stanno lavorando ad un software che risponde agli stimoli di ogni singolo strumento cambiando il video in proiezione. I musicisti suoneranno improvvisazione radicale, ed il video sarà generato dalla loro improvvisazione. Una squadra di video artist sta lavorando a tutto questo, è bello vedere che in tanti ci credono!

IL PROGETTO

Matteo Paggi, trombonista al fianco di Enrico Rava nel gruppo "The Fearless Five", presenta il suo progetto W O R D S. 

Un concept di improvvisazione ispirata che mira a distruggere tutte le barriere tra generi musicali, facendo esprimere ogni musicista nel modo più puro e intimo possibile e andando ad evocare nuovi paesaggi sonori, non classificabili.

La musica di W O R D S  si basa su un omonimo metodo di composizione e improvvisazione creato e sviluppato da Matteo. Il metodo mira ad una creazione artistica che scaturisca dalla sollecitazione  delle tre sfere che compongono l’essere umano: la sfera intellettuale, la sfera corporea e la sfera spirituale.
Queste tre aree vengono messe in gioco attraverso l'uso di cinque categorie di parole: colori, forme, azioni, modi di essere, luoghi/cose.

Infine le parole vengono scritte su carta con l’aggiunta di segni che descrivono modalità di esecuzione  e transizioni, creando quindi un’indispensabile forma entro il quale i musicisti possano esprimersi profondamente e creare insieme il brano.

​Il gruppo non ha un numero fisso di componenti ma una line-up variabile a seconda dei luoghi,  dei momenti della vita, delle esigenze logistiche o di particolari concept artistici; oltretutto, per scelta concettuale e umana, è formata d musicisti provenienti da background molto diversi: musica classica, jazz, rock, latin, modern jazz, contemporary, free. Il nucleo principale del W O R D S - Collective, oltre a Matteo, è composto da:  

Irene Piazza (violino), Iara Perillo (flauto), Anja Gottberg (contrabbasso) e Anton Sconosciuto (batteria).

L'ALBUM

L'album che è in uscita il 15.02.2024 è intitolato words, ed è una recording session avvenuta in un giorno di Maggio ad Amsterdam. Nell'abum troverete 2 tracce completamente improvvisate (quelle con il titolo tutto in minuscolo) e 4 tracce scritte con il metodo WORDS.

Le tracce improvvisate erano dei Soundcheck, ma è stato sorprendete scoprire, con un ascolto postumo, che risultano essere dei brani a se stanti, con un senso compiuto.

Le improvvisazioni free che ascolterai nell'album non sono classificabili come free jazz, ma sono molto più simili a delle composizioni di musica classica e contemporanea. In dei momenti sembra di udire un brano di Debussy o Stravinsky, poi sembra di essere in un locale soffuso di jazz intellettuale, poi ancora in un'isteria di suoni non correlati. Non mancano momenti di estremo dramma melodico e un uso di dinamiche importante. 

Il fatto di avere un collettivo di musicisti provenienti dai generi musicali più disparati ha una grande potenza compositiva e un'innovativa energia di interplay. Si può chiaramente udire, in questo album, che ogni musicista ha un'idea di bellezza sonora che completa la sfera ideale dell'altro.

TARGET

The aim is to implement the musical performance with a video mapping project of stage, objects and people. Creating a story that proceeds not only on an audio level but also on a visual level. Collaborators are working on software that responds to the stimuli of each instrument by changing the video projection. The musicians will play radical improvisation, and the video will be generated by their improvisation. A team of video artists is working on this, it's good to see that so many believe in it!

THE PROJECT

Matteo Paggi, trombonist alongside Enrico Rava in the group "The Fearless Five", presents his project W O R D S. 

A concept of inspired improvisation that aims to destroy all barriers between musical genres, letting each musician express himself in the purest and most intimate way possible and evoking new, unclassifiable soundscapes.

The music of W O R D S is based on a composition and improvisation method of the same name created and developed by Matteo. The method aims at an artistic creation that springs from the stimulation of the three spheres that make up the human being: the intellectual sphere, the bodily sphere and the spiritual sphere.
These three areas are brought into play through the use of five categories of words: colours, shapes, actions, ways of being, places/things.

Finally, the words are written on paper with the addition of signs describing performance modes and transitions, thus creating an indispensable form within which the musicians can express themselves deeply and create the piece together.

The group does not have a fixed number of members but a line-up that varies according to places, moments in life, logistical needs or particular artistic concepts; moreover, by conceptual and human choice, it is made up of musicians from very different backgrounds: classical music, jazz, rock, latin modern jazz, contemporary, free. The core of the W O R D S - Collective, in addition to Matteo, is composed of:  

Irene Piazza (violin), Iara Perillo (flute), Anja Gottberg (double bass) and Anton Sconosciuto (drums).

THE ALBUM

The album that will be released on 15.02.2024 is entitled words, and is a recording session that took place on a May day in Amsterdam. On the album you will find 2 completely improvised tracks (the ones with the title all in lower case) and 4 tracks written with the WORDS method.

The improvised tracks were soundchecks, but it was surprising to discover, on posthumous listening, that they turn out to be stand-alone tracks with a full meaning.
The free improvisations you will hear on the album cannot be classified as free jazz, but are much more like classical and contemporary music compositions. At moments you seem to hear a piece by Debussy or Stravinsky, then you seem to be in a club suffused with intellectual jazz, then again in a hysteria of unrelated sounds. There are moments of extreme melodic drama and an important use of dynamics. 

Having a collective of musicians from the most disparate musical genres has great compositional power and innovative interplay energy. One can clearly hear on this album that each musician has an idea of sound beauty that complements the ideal sphere of the other.
