In un villaggio palestinese,
in una delle zone più "calde" della Cisgiordania,
dove bambini e ragazzini rischiano di finire in prigione,
abbiamo costruito un parco e un teatro
per aiutarli a superare traumi e paure
e a fiorire nonostante le sfide.
Il parco è aperto dal 2019;
il teatro è pronto, ma i ragazzi non ne possono ancora usufruire.
Ci siamo quasi - mancano solo l'arredo e le attrezzature.

Perché

Beit Ummar è un villaggio rurale nei pressi di Hebron, in Palestina, in una delle zone più "calde" della Cisgiordania.

Un quarto dei circa 18.000 abitanti sono bambini al di sotto dei 18 anni.

I giovani di Beit Ummar affrontano una realtà di forti tensioni politiche e grandi difficoltà economiche, con gravi ricadute psicologiche e sociali.

Molti giovani non sono né occupati né inseriti in percorsi di istruzione o formazione, e questo in una regione in cui non solo maggiorenni, ma anche bambini e ragazzini rischiano la prigione.

Come

Noi del CFJ lavoriamo per aiutare i nostri giovani a fiorire nonostante le sfide, per dar loro speranza e nuove opportunità e per tenerli al sicuro.

Lo facciamo attraverso iniziative sociali di vario genere - iniziative di educazione, formazione, cultura, empowerment (soprattutto per donne e ragazze) recupero di terreni incolti, community building ecc.

Il progetto: un teatro per la gioventù di Beit Ummar

Il nuovo teatro di Beit Ummar e il parco che lo ospita fanno parte della soluzione.

Il parco (7000 mq) di Beit Ummar è stato inaugurato nel 2019, con le sue giostre e il suo campo da calcio, dove bambini/e e ragazzi/e già giocano, si rilassano, socializzano e imparano.

La costruzione del teatro culturale (360 mq), ubicato all'interno del parco, è stata completata nel 2021, ma i giovani non ne possono ancora usufruire.

Ci siamo quasi - rimane solo da arredarlo e attrezzalo (palcoscenico, sedie, attrezzature audio e video).

Il teatro

• Gioverà albenessere psicologico e ridurrà i livelli di ansia, stress e sentimenti negativi, soprattutto tra i bambini e i giovani, attraverso l'arte e la socializzazione;

• Fornirà ai ragazzistrumenti espressivi e li incoraggerà a cimentarsi nella produzione di opere di arte plastica, teatro, film e documentari;

• CContribuirà a contrastare la disoccupazione attraverso iniziative educative e di formazione per giovani e fascie vulnerabili (p.es. madri sole);

• Renderà possibili programmi di scambio culturale con giovani provenienti da altre comunità in Palestina e all'estero.

• Contribuirà alla coesione sociale e allavita culturaledel villaggio a beneficio di giovani e adulti;

• Favoriràl'economia locale ospitando sia eventi culturali capaci di attrarre visitatori (p.es. mostre, proiezioni, spettacoli).

Chi siamo

Questa campagna di crowdfunding è organizzata e promossa dall'associazione Pace per Gerusalemme per conto dell'associazione Center for Freedom and Justice, Beit Ummar.

>> L’Associazione Pace per Gerusalemme si è costituita a Trento nell’ottobre 2001 per affermare le ragioni della pace, del dialogo e della convivenza nella terra di Palestina-Israele.
Operiamo per tenere viva l’attenzione della cittadinanza su quanto accade nel Vicino Oriente, in un’ottica che privilegia ogni azione e parola tesa a promuovere il superamento del conflitto e la ricerca di una prospettiva di una pace giusta. Promuoviamo eventi culturali, di sensibilizzazione e educazione, e abbiamo avviato relazioni di cooperazione, coinvolgendo le istituzioni locali e le comunità sia in Trentino che in Palestina e Israele, con azioni a favore dei giovani e delle fasce più deboli della popolazione locale.

>> Center for Freedom and Justice Beit Ummar (CFJ)è un'associazione non governativa palestinese che, attraverso iniziative sociali di vario genere (p.es. educazione, formazione, cultura, community building, recupero di terreni incolti), lavora per rafforzare la comunità di Beit Ummar trasformando le vite delle fasce più vulnerabili tra cui donne, bambine e ragazze, giovani e contadini.
Queste sono alcune delle associazioni con cui abbiamo collaborato in passato: Ponti di Pace, Italia; Oxfam International, The Jerusalem Fund, USA; LIFE, Francia; Japan Volunteer Centre, Giappone; CFJ Norvegia; CFJ Colorado, USA.

Altri progetti che abbiamo realizzato

CFJ eroga tutti i servizi alla popolazione gratuitamente. Questi sono alcuni dei nostri progetti:

>> Campi estivi: ogni anno, dal 2019, organizziamo campi estivi gratuiti per i bambini e le bambine di Beit Ummar. I campi estivi sono un ambiente sicuro in cui i bambini acquisiscono fiducia di sé e nuove abilità, sia concrete sia sociali (p.es. comunicazione, risoluzione dei conflitti).

>> Succo di fico d'India: nell'ambito di questo progetto - atto a contribuire all'autosufficienza economica delle donne e al sostentamento dei contadini - abbiamo acquistato i frutti dai contadini locali, fornito alle donne del villaggio i mezzi materiali per produrre il succo di fico d'India e lo abbbiamo venduto in Germania, devolvendo i guadagni alle produttrici.

>> Allevamento di pecore:progetto volto ad aiutare famiglie bisognose, e donne in particolar modo. Abbiamo costruito un ovile, acquistato delle pecore e fornito alle donne del villaggio i mezzi materiali (cucina, attrezzature) per permettere loro di produrre latticini e venderli sul mercato locale.

Culture and hope for the youth of Beit Ummar

In a Palestinian town, 
in one of the most troubled parts of the West Bank, 
where children and teenagers are at risk of ending up in prison, 
we have built a park and a theatre 
to help them overcome traumas and fears, 
and to thrive despite the challenges.The park has been open since 2019. 
The theater is ready, but our youth cannot enjoy it yet.
We are almost there - 
all that remains to be done is to furnish and equip it. 
With your help, 
we hope to be able to open the theatre to our young public 
within six months.

Why

Beit Ummar is a mostly agricultural town in the vicinity of Hebron, in one of the most troubled parts the Palestinian West Bank.

A quarter of its nearly 18,000 inhabitants are children under the age of 18.

The youth of Beit Ummar face a combination of political tensions and economic difficulties, resulting in considerable psychological distress.

Many teens are both out of school and out of work. This is a particularly delicate situationin a region where not only adults but even children risk getting imprisoned.

How

At CFJ, we work to help our youth thrive despite the challenges, create opportunities for them and keep them out of harm's way.

We do this through community development programmes, cultural and educational enrichment, empowerment initiatives (especially for women and girls), international exchanges and land restoration projects.

The project - a theatre for the youth of Beit Ummar

The new Beit Ummar theatre and park are part of the solution.

In 2019, we inaugurated the 7000 sq m Beit Ummar park, with its rides and football pitch, where boys and girls already play, relax, socialise and learn.

The construction of the 360 sq m cultural theatre, nested in the park, was completed in 2021, but our youth cannot enjoy it yet. 

We are almost there - all that remains to be done is to furnish and equip the theatre.

The theatre will

• Promote psychological well-being and decrease stress and negative feelings, especially among children and youth, through art and socialization;

• Provide tools for self-expression and encourage young people to get involved in producing works of plastic art, theatre, films and documentaries;

• Help contrast unemploymentthrough educational and skilling initiatives for young people and vulnerable groups (e.g. single mothers);

• Enable cultural exchange programmes with youth from other communities in Palestine and abroad;

• Enhance the town'ssocial cohesion and cultural life for the benefit of both young and old;

• Contribute tothe town's economyby hosting events (e.g. national festivals, exhibitions, screenings, shows) that will attract visitors.

Who we are

This crowdfunding campaign is organised and promoted by Pace per Gerusalemme in the name of Center for Freedom and Justice, Beit Ummar.

>> Pace per Gerusalemme(Peace for Jerusalem)  was founded in Trento in October 2001 promote peace, dialogue and coexistence in the land of Palestine-Israel.
We work to keep people informed and interested in the situation in the Near East, favouring every action or word capable of promoting a peaceful and just solution to the conflict. We support cultural, awareness-raising and educational events, and have been cooperating with local institutions and communities - in Trentino, in Palestine and in Israel - on projects to sustain young people and the most disadvantaged sections of the population.

>> Center for Freedom and Justice (CFJ) Beit Ummaris a Palestinian non-governmental organisation that works to render the local community more resilient and transform the lives of underpriviledged groups, such as women and girls, youth and farmers. We do this through a variety of community development projects (e.g. education, training, culture, community building and land reclamation).
These are a few of the organisations we've cooperated with in the past: Bridges of Peace (Ponti di Pace), Italy; Oxfam International; The Jerusalem Fund, USA; LIFE, France; Japan Volunteer Centre (JVC), Japan; CFJ Norway; CFJ Colorado, USA.

Other projects we have carried out

CFJ offers all of the services to the local population free of charge.Here are a few of the projects we have carried out:

>> Summer camps: we have been organising free summer camps for the boys and girls of Beit Ummar every year, since 2019. The summer camps provide a safe environment in which children gain self-confidence and learn new skills, both concrete and social (e.g. communication, conflict resolution).

>> Prickly pear juice: in this project, meant to contribute to the economic self-sufficiency of both farmers and women. Having bought the fruit from local farmers, we provided local women with the means to produce prickly pear juice, and marketed it in Germany, transferring the profits to the women who produced it. 

>> Sheep farm:this project targeted marginalised families in general, and especially women. It aims to reduce unemployment and contribute to the economic independence of women. We built a pen, bought sheep and provided the women of Beit Ummar with the material means (kitchen, equipment) to produce milk products and sell them locally.
